What to Do with Excess Polymeric Sand After Installation?

I've recently noticed some weeds popping up between my patio pavers. My plan is to clean out those gaps and then apply polymeric sand. I've seen various videos demonstrating the process, which includes sweeping, tamping, and removing any remaining sand before wetting it down. However, I'm curious about what others do with the excess sand that gets blown off before it's wet. Do you leave it nearby on the grass, or is there a better method?

Typically, you shouldn't have too much sand left by the time you're done sweeping. It's best to apply it in smaller sections, especially if your area isn't too large. If there's a bit of leftover sand, I usually just use a leaf blower on a low setting to clear it away, and it gets spread out enough that it's hardly noticeable.

Honestly, I think polymeric sand is overrated. I see weeds coming back even with it. If you're talking about keeping the weeds at bay, I'd recommend the all-time favorite: regular masonry sand, along with a good pressure wash every now and then. My partner does it each year, and it's still a lot of work for not much payoff!

Good luck with the project! I put down polymeric sand about 7 or 8 years ago when I installed my patio and walkway, and surprisingly I haven't had many weed issues since then—maybe just a couple over the entire time. It might just depend on the conditions!
