I'm thinking about buying a house that checks all my boxes, but the traffic noise is a concern. The house itself is quiet inside, but the backyard would be pretty loud facing a 6-lane boulevard with a speed limit of 45 mph, just beyond my bushes, trees, and fence. I've considered adding more greenery but am curious if features like a water fountain could help. Has anyone dealt with this issue, and what solutions worked for you?

I live near a busy street too, and while my neighbor has a water feature, it doesn't completely drown out the noise. It does help a bit, but in the end, you just get used to it. For me, the benefits of my house outweigh the noise issue. It's something to consider!
I have a small water feature by my front door, and after talking with my landscape architect, it seems like it’s one of the better options available. I also set up a bird feeding station, which adds pleasant birdsong to the mix. For me, that extra sound makes it easier to handle the noise.
I think you're mainly relying on distance to help reduce noise. Water features tend to be low volume and might not make a big difference. If you're really looking to block out the noise, consider investing in a good speaker system to create some background sounds instead.
