Struggling to Level and Plumb Bathroom Studs – Need Some Help!

I've been renovating my bathroom, and I'm currently stuck trying to level and plumb my studs. It's been super frustrating! I had to build out the studs with strapping because my new tub is slightly shorter than the old one. I've been at this for three days now. I have a center point, which is stud #1; it's plumb. Stud #3 is sistered out and will hold a niche frame above it, and it's level and plumb as well. The problem comes with stud #2. I can't seem to make it level with the other two while also getting it plumb. When I get one right, the other goes off. Any advice on how to tackle this? Thanks!

It sounds like you’re battling some tricky old studs! Generally, you’ll find it really tough to get existing studs perfectly plumb or level. Have you checked if those old studs are even straight? You might be making it harder than it needs to be. As for why they need to be perfectly level, it depends on what you’re planning to put on that wall.

Thanks for the input! The old studs aren't straight at all. So should I prioritize getting it plumb or level? The wall will have tile where the tub is, and I'm more concerned with that part than the drywall.
