Did I Just Score a Major Deal at Home Depot?

I've been wanting the M12 Surge impact driver for a while, and with the Fourth of July sales on, I decided to grab it along with a cordless ratchet as my free gift. The driver came to $104.53 after tax, while the ratchet was priced at $87, making my total $191.53. I picked up the impact driver but wanted to cancel the ratchet order at a different store. I couldn't find a way to cancel it online, so I messaged customer service, and after some back and forth, they confirmed they canceled it and sent me a cancellation email. However, I'm a bit confused because I'm seeing a refund for $154.69, which covers the full price of the ratchet plus tax. That means my final cost for the Surge driver (including two batteries and a charger) would be just $36.84! I haven't received the refund yet, just an email confirming it. Has anyone experienced this situation before? Will I actually only be charged for $36, or will I end up paying full price for the driver?

You know, you really didn't need to reach out to Home Depot for a refund! If you don’t pick up the item in about 7 days, they'll usually just refund it automatically. As for what they'll charge you—who knows? It’s a bit of a mystery until the refund actually goes through.

Honestly, it’s all up in the air until you see that refund hit your account. Weird things happen all the time with these orders, so it’ll be interesting to see how it turns out for you.

I had a similar experience with a track saw and a free track that got sent to the wrong store. I figured I’d just let it sit and maybe get refunded. A while later, they credited me something for it! Not sure how or why, but it worked out—mostly I just didn’t want the hassle of figuring it out. If they ended up paying me, cool; if not, whatever. Simplifies life!
