What’s the Best Soil Mix for My Plants?

I'm looking to create my own soil mix because the store-bought stuff I used retains too much water, even after adding perlite. I'm curious about what other components I should include and in what proportions. I've heard that coco coir and charcoal can be beneficial too. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ?

Before mixing your soil, it helps to know what plants you’re planning to use it for. If it’s just standard houseplants, regular potting soil is usually fine as long as it’s evenly spread out and the pots have good drainage. For me, I mostly use perlite to help with aeration and water management. Coco coir is also a great addition since it’s lighter and cheaper to ship. Just remember to add nutrients too! If you're having issues with moisture, check that you're not overwatering or using pots without drainage holes.

Totally, but keep in mind that orchids might not do well in typical potting soil—they can rot. And switching to unglazed clay pots can also help with moisture control!
