I have a spare coffee table made from mango wood, and I'm considering putting it outside. It's going to be pretty exposed to the rain for about 60 days a year, and the sun is quite harsh the rest of the time. If I prep and finish the wood properly, will it be able to withstand these outdoor conditions, or should I skip the idea altogether?

Yeah, you can definitely use mango wood outdoors with the right exterior finish. Just keep in mind that it won’t last forever in those conditions; you’ll need to maintain it regularly, as no finish is permanent outside. Maybe touch it up once a year?
Mango wood doesn’t naturally resist rot too well, so you might want to think twice about outdoor use. It’s rated as moderate to perishable, which means in tough conditions, it might struggle. If it were me, I’d look for more durable wood for outdoor furniture.
Thanks for sharing this info! I guess I need to decide if I really want to use it or just sell it.

Okay thanks! So, sand and finish it once a year? Or should I do it more often?
