So, I've been working on my house quite a bit, like splitting a bathroom into two and finishing up my walk-in attic. Recently, an inspector left me a notice about some interior work I apparently did without a permit. He mentioned that he's seen workers coming and going from my place and even noticed a dumpster truck there one day. Now, he wants to come in for an inspection, but he hasn't issued a violation or stop order yet. He said I can contact him when I'm ready to schedule the inspection, but he'll keep checking in and will issue a stop order if he sees any workers before he arrives. My house is mostly move-in ready; just a bit of painting and installing a toilet and vanity is left. I'm unsure whether I should reach out to the inspector for the inspection, hope he forgets, or let him in. Should I get drawings and apply for permits beforehand? I'm worried I'll receive a violation if I do let him in.

Honestly, you've already been seen by the inspector, and he knows there’s work happening without permits. Ignoring it will likely land you in hot water, possibly with red tags on everything. Your best bet is to reach out and be honest; tell him you weren't aware permits were needed for the work. Ask him how to resolve this quickly so you can move on. Remember, hiding isn’t an option here!

That's a risky move to play. Lying to the inspector could backfire, especially if they're strict. Better to come clean!
