I'm looking for a solution to handle the dog fur at my wife's grooming business. We've been using a shop vac, but it's constantly needing maintenance. I'm curious whether a dust collector would be effective for this purpose, or if it would just end up clumping or clogging with all the hair.

A dust collector should definitely do the trick! Just keep in mind to ground it properly—you want to avoid any static fire hazards. Better safe than sorry!
If it works for my woodworking tools, I can’t see why it wouldn’t handle dog fur. I use mine in a shop that gets piled with hair from my yellow lab, and it hasn’t clogged on me yet!
