How Can I Control Amaranth Weeds in My Pumpkin Patch?

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a serious issue in my pumpkin patch—there's an overwhelming number of baby Amaranth weeds popping up, and I'm talking hundreds of them! I'm planning to completely weed the area tomorrow, but I could really use some advice on how to prevent more from sprouting. Would it be best to mix some pre-emergent into the soil, add a layer of mulch, or consider using a weed barrier? Or should I do all three? My pumpkins are growing nicely, but I want to tackle these weeds before they take over again, especially since I've already had to weed this bed twice this season.

You might want to try a mix of methods. Using a pre-emergent can definitely help keep those Amaranth seeds from sprouting. Also layering some mulch on top can suppress their growth since they won't get enough light. A weed barrier can be a solid addition if you consistently have issues, but it might be overkill if you're already managing it with the other two methods. Good luck with your pumpkin patch!

I've heard Amaranth can be quite the troublemaker! When I had a similar issue, I found that a good layer of mulch worked wonders to prevent regrowth. Plus, it helps keep moisture locked in for your pumpkins. Just be diligent with your weeding, as it seems like they can spread like wildfire if left unchecked. Keep at it!
