I'm looking to get my first houseplant and want something easy to care for. I plan to keep it in my room where it can enjoy some fresh air. Ideally, I'd like a plant that gives me a bit of discipline to remember to water it. I'm new to this, so something small to start with would be great, and I might eventually move on to something larger. What should I be considering when choosing my first plant?

It really depends on the light in your room. If you're a beginner and might water too much, I'd recommend a pothos, specifically an Epipremnum. They're pretty forgiving and only need watering when the top layer of soil is dry. If you're worried about forgetting to water, go for a Zz plant or a snake plant. They thrive even with neglect!
Snake plants are super easy to care for, but seriously check your lighting situation since that affects which plants are best for you. If you only have a floor lamp and a couple of smaller windows, you’ll want to pick carefully!

What do you mean by lighting situation? My room has a floor lamp and two small windows, but one has an AC unit attached. Thanks! Also, I’m not super into the look of snake plants. Any other options?
