Can I Use My Kitchen Circuit for an EV Charger?

I'm considering hiring someone to install a home EV charger, but my breaker panel is already full. I have a 50A circuit that currently powers my kitchen stove, which I don't use because I have a gas range. I'm thinking about decommissioning that kitchen circuit and reallocating that space in the breaker box to power the EV charger. Is this a good idea, and is it allowed?

What you're proposing is definitely feasible, but it’s best to get a quote from a qualified electrician who has experience with EV charger installations. They’ll ensure everything is up to code and safe.

Yes, you can do that. One option is to install quad breakers if you have any 15A circuits. This way, you can rearrange your panel to create enough space for the new circuit.

That sounds like a smart move, but make sure the circuit you’re converting is really not needed before doing that.

It's doable, but I would recommend considering adding another breaker panel for more flexibility later on. That way, you won't worry about running out of space down the line.

But how can you know that? It seems like a consultation with an electrician is the right first step before jumping to conclusions.
