I have this really old, disgusting carpet on my stairs that's been there since the house was built. It's impossible to get it clean, and my budget won't allow for a full renovation anytime soon. I'm considering whether it would be better to remove the carpet and sand or paint the unfinished wood beneath, then stapling down a runner instead. I know it sounds like putting lipstick on a pig, but the carpet seriously grosses me out every time I walk on it! What do you think?

Have you thought about just putting in new carpet? It might be a budget-friendly option compared to a full renovation. It really helps to get rid of that nasty old carpet!
Totally! I'd consider new carpet, but my staircase is round with some tricky landings, so doing it myself would be a challenge. But anything is possible when you hate your carpet, right? Haha.
