What’s the Best Jointers Upgrade for My Garage Workshop?

I'm looking to upgrade my grandfather's old 6-inch jointer, but I'm limited to a 110v setup in my garage. I've come across a couple of options: the Grizzly 6" jointer with spiral cutterhead and the Laguna JX6. What do you recommend?

I’d go for the Laguna! It’s a solid machine and I've had great luck with mine. Plus, it runs fine on 110v, so it should fit your setup perfectly. Don't let the 6-inch limit scare you too much; the JX8 is also a great choice if you're okay with a slightly larger machine!

Same here! The Laguna has worked wonders for me.

Thanks for the tip! I was wondering about that—do you think the 8" straight knife is better than the 6" with the helical head?

If you can, definitely talk to an electrician about installing a 230v circuit in your garage. It'll give you way more options for jointers and any other tools you might want to add down the line. I was able to upgrade my setup and it’s made a huge difference for my table saw and jointer. Just a thought!

Between the two you mentioned, Grizzly does have a better fence adjustment. But keep an eye out for other brands too; the Laguna Quad Tech might be a viable alternative if you're looking for an 8" jointer on 110v. Just check for solid reviews—I've only seen mixed info on it.

Yeah, I saw the Laguna Quad Tech, but I couldn’t find many reviews for it. It’s strange that more brands don’t offer an 8" option on 110v.
