I just bought a house, and I noticed that the previous owner did a pretty poor job fixing a broken window — the glazing unit actually fell out! Upon taking a closer look, it seems like the unit is too small, and I've only got top and bottom beading. I reached out to a few glaziers, but they all want to replace the entire window, which feels excessive. I think they might be doing this because of legal guarantees and stuff. I want to hold off on spending too much since I've already splurged a lot on plumbing and other essentials. So now I'm considering if I could repair it myself. I see that you can buy beading and glass units online in specific sizes. Am I overthinking this or is it doable? Should I just hire a handyman instead?

I’d say go for it! Replacing glass isn’t as daunting as it sounds, especially if it’s a single pane. For double pane, it can be a bit trickier but manageable. Just grab the right glass size, some glass points, and putty. If you mess up, those hardware stores can cut the glass for you. It’s all about patience when glazing it, but if you take your time, you’ll do fine.
It looks like you can totally do this on your own if you’re feeling handy! The only challenging part really is the glazing. It’ll take some practice to get it right, but there are lots of tutorials online. Just make sure you get the right materials, and it'll be a fun project.
Definitely check out some YouTube videos for glazing techniques. Seeing it done helps a lot!

Yeah, totally! If you need a simpler option, just caulk it in place instead of putty. Just make sure to cut the glass a little smaller for a snug fit!
