I'm converting part of my downstairs into a bedroom, and I'm planning to add drywall to make it official. I want to make sure the room is soundproofed for better privacy. Does anyone have suggestions or advice on the best methods for sound deadening a new wall?

If you're building a new wall, consider going for a staggered stud wall with insulation. It makes a huge difference compared to a regular stud wall. Plus, you could use 3/4" drywall on both sides and maybe add some soundproofing membranes before you put up the drywall.
I did this when I split my laundry room and office! An extra drywall layer made a big difference; I can barely hear the laundry machines anymore.
The best way? Start with insulation, then add sound insulation panels, and finally drywall. You might want to check out a YouTube video I found; though, it might be a bit overkill for just a bedroom.
Staggered studs and mass loaded vinyl sheets work really well too! Just keep in mind that you’re more interested in creating a quiet space than building a recording studio. Rockwool safe and sound insulation is a solid choice along with a good door and sweep to seal gaps underneath.

Totally agree! Staggered studs and good insulation like cellulose or rock wool will work wonders. If you're really looking for soundproofing, try adding two layers of drywall with an elastic gap in between. It’s a more advanced solution, but super effective!
