Hey everyone! I'm working on crafting a coffee table that has an almond shape, measuring about 100x50 cm. I've got experience with a jigsaw, but I know the cuts won't be super smooth or even. I'm looking for advice on the best methods to get clean curves from the start, or how to fix any rough cuts I might end up with. I don't have access to a band saw, but I'm open to picking up some hand tools that could help. What do you recommend?

You might want to consider using a spokeshave for hand tool work, though I haven’t tried it myself. For power tools, the best route is to make a template from MDF for half the tabletop. You can then use that template with a router and a guided bit to shape the other half. First, just rough cut the outline with your jigsaw, then attach the template and refine with the router. It’ll give you a much smoother finish!

Spokeshaves do look interesting! For sanding, do you think I could just use my orbital sander, or would that take forever? I’d hate to spend ages on it, even with rough paper.
