Help with Thermostat Rewiring Issues

I recently switched out my old thermostat for a new model, but I'm having some problems. My new thermostat shows that the inside temperature is 70°F even though it's set to 68°F, and it's heating when I intended to cool. I've wired it like this:

- G to G
- W (top) and O/B (bottom) to O
- Y to Y
- R to R

I also set the back to gas/oil instead of electric/heat pump. I have a large AC condenser outside, and I know the heating system uses gas. Just for context, my old thermostat was a Honeywell WiFi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat, and the new one is a Honeywell RTH2300 5-2 DAY PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT. What did I mess up?

It sounds like you need to move the O wire to the W terminal. In your old setup, O was used for something different, but in your new thermostat, it's reserved for the reversing valve, which your current system might not need. Just attach the O wire to W, and that should help your heating and cooling function properly!

Make sure you double-check your wiring for any other loose connections. Sometimes that can cause weird temperature readings. And because the new thermostat has specific settings, it might be good to consult the manual to ensure it’s set up right for a gas furnace system.
