Have Any Koreans Grown Veggies in Their Yards?

I've been watching some YouTube videos and noticed how much Americans maintain their lawns, and it got me thinking. As a Korean, I'm really interested in growing vegetables in my yard, especially considering the issues with water shortages. I wonder if others, particularly those in the Korean community, share the same mindset. Have you ever seen Koreans or anyone else doing this? Would love to hear your experiences and thoughts on the matter!

I can relate! Growing up, my Japanese mom had vegetable gardens everywhere. It was common among her friends too, especially in the backyards to avoid theft! In the U.S., backyards are usually free for whatever you want to plant. I'm planning to add some veggies to my front yard too, moving away from traditional lawns and embracing more edible landscapes!

Not all Americans are lawn-obsessed! Many are shifting towards more sustainable practices, like planting wildflowers. I've met Korean Americans who love backyard veggie gardening too! It's becoming a popular way to use space creatively while contributing to the environment.

That's awesome to hear! It's such a beautiful way to connect with nature and grow your own food.

Absolutely! Many Americans, not just Koreans, have beautiful gardens filled with veggies and fruits. There's even a movement called homesteading, where people try to grow all their own food. While it's true that some people are fixated on their lawns, there are many who prefer native plants or wildflowers. And don’t let HOAs scare you too much; many folks live without them and can do whatever they want with their yards! Check out local gardening communities, you might find inspiration!
