What’s the Best Way to Prepare a Bathtub for Resurfacing to Prevent Peeling?

I'm looking for some advice on how to better prepare my bathtub before the resurfacing service comes. This will be the fourth time my bathtub has started chipping within six months after being resprayed. I know it's technically my landlord's responsibility, but they just send the same third-party company to do the job, and it's frustrating that no long-term solution is provided. I've been cleaning the tub really well before they come and letting it sit unused for at least four days after the repair, but the coating keeps peeling. Does anyone have tips for how I can make the repair last longer or improve the preparation process? Is there something about the material they're using that could be causing this issue?

It sounds like you’re doing what you can, but it might be that the way they’re prepping the tub isn't right. Sometimes, the process needs more than just cleaning – like proper sanding or etching, which often requires stronger chemicals. If they're not doing that, the spray job won't hold up. You might want to ask them for more details on their process next time. Seriously, if it's not smelly and intensive, they might be cutting corners!

How can I suggest a better prep method when I talk to them? I want to make sure they're doing it right!

I get your frustration! They need to sand the tub really well or use etching to ensure the new coating sticks. It sounds like they might be using lower-quality materials if it smells bad but the finish still fails. If your landlord lets you, see if you can talk to them about different resurfacing options that might last longer. You deserve a tub that stays nice!

Right? It's not fair to keep getting the same temporary fix. Maybe I’ll look into other companies myself if they won’t listen.
