Hey everyone! I just moved into a new house and need some advice on fitting a fridge into a narrow space created by the builder. The spot is right next to a wall, and I'm worried about how far the fridge doors will open due to the limited space. My front door measures about 35 inches wide, while the fridge area is roughly 36 inches across. The ceiling height is around 70 inches. I've included a link to an image for reference. I prefer a bottom freezer but want to know if French door fridges are totally off the table. Also, are there ways to avoid pricey zero clearance hinges? Should I consider using the space beside the door instead? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, the wall situation is a bit odd, but it looks like the builder did account for fridge access. A left-swinging single door fridge seems like your best option. Just ensure that you install the fridge door to swing open to the left; that should solve any clearance issues. Drawer-style bottom freezers should also work without any problem, so you have some flexibility there!
You should be good to go! The slight notch in the wall is intentional, making room for your fridge door. Considering your front door width, you’ll likely want a fridge about 33 inches wide. This gives you a bit of breathing room away from the wall. Most French door models should fit fine as long as the hinge protrudes less than 2 inches when opened wide, and I think you’ll manage that with standard sizes!
Definitely grab a tape measure! It's crucial to check the fridge width and ensure you can open both doors without a headache. Sometimes you’ll need to remove the handles too when moving it in. I’d also check out display models at a nearby store to see how they operate in real life.
Great idea! Also, remember that fridges often come without handles attached upon delivery, so that might save you some hassle during movement.

I feel you! It’s bizarre how some spaces are designed. Just make sure whatever you get can navigate through the front door without a fuss!
