Why Is My Tile Cracking in a Straight Line?

Asked By CuriousCat42 On

I've noticed that the tiles in my half bath are cracking in a nearly straight line across several of them. There's a crawl space beneath, but I haven't seen any issues on the other side where my dining area is. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? If the cracks are straight through multiple tiles, that often indicates movement. It could be related to the subfloor or even installation techniques. Inspect that crawl space carefully!

Glad to hear you have access to that area! Once you check it out, you might find it’s a simple fix. Hope it’s not too serious!

It sounds like the subfloor might be moving if you can feel the floor bouncing when you walk on it. You should definitely check the crawl space to see what's going on underneath those tiles. It could be an issue with the subfloor.

We've had issues with our tile too! The installation was pretty poor. On our second floor, it wasn't the tiles cracking but the grout that was coming loose, so it sounded like cracking. Just something to keep in mind!
