How Can I Tell if My Charger or Battery is Broken?

I'm trying to figure out if it's my charger or my battery that's not working. My grandmother-in-law has a DCB115 charger and a 9ah flexvolt battery. The battery is completely drained and won't charge at all. When I plug in the charger, there are no indicator lights, and the same happens when I connect the battery to it. I can't tell whether the issue is with the charger or the battery. Is there any way to diagnose the problem? We can't really test with another battery or charger since she doesn't have access to any nearby.

A good first step would be to check if you have access to a multimeter to test the voltage on both the charger and the battery. If the charger isn't showing any lights when it's plugged in, it could be possible that the charger itself is the issue. But if you find it's also the battery that isn’t holding any charge, then it might be time to look for a replacement. Since you found an old 2ah 20V battery and charger, it sounds like you're already on your way to troubleshooting it!

It's tough when you can't test with another set. Since you connected an old charger and battery already, it's a strong indicator that the flexvolt battery might be the problem. If a different battery didn’t charge either, then it’s more likely an issue with the charger. You might want to consider getting a new battery or charger if neither seems to be functioning correctly.
