How to Hang Shelves When Studs Don’t Align?

I'm trying to hang these beautiful shelves that were made by my wife's grandfather, but I'm facing an issue. The studs in my wall are too close together to match up with the hanging hardware that's currently attached to the shelves. I'd really prefer not to use toggle bolts. I'm considering whether it might be strong enough to attach the hanging hardware directly to the horizontal part of the shelves instead, as they have some inlays as shown in the picture linked. Any advice?

It looks like those shelves are solid wood, so attaching the hardware directly to the horizontal sections should work just fine. Just make sure you choose the right hardware for the job and attach it securely. How heavy are you planning on loading the shelves? That’ll affect what you need to use.

If you're expecting to put about 20 pounds on them, that's manageable. I would recommend using L-brackets to secure them to the wall. Just make sure you hit at least one stud if you can. That way, you'll have the extra support.
