Struggling to Find the Right Size Fire-Rated Door for My Garage?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of replacing the door that connects my entryway to the garage. Right now, I've got a standard wooden door that's about 79.25 inches tall, 29.75 inches wide, and 1-3/8 inches thick. I was advised by a guy at Lowe's to go for a 30x80 fire-rated door. However, when I check the specs, the actual dimensions are larger—80 or even 81 inches in height, 30 inches in width, and a depth of 4.5 inches. I'm worried that the 30x80 won't fit in my frame. Am I going to need a new door frame altogether? Should I be concerned, or might it just work out?

It sounds like you're likely going to need to replace the frame too. Usually, swapping just the door can turn out to be more hassle than just doing the whole frame and door assembly. You'll want a rough opening of about 32x82 to fit a 30x80 door once everything is leveled and shimmed.

How much do you think that would cost?
