Hey everyone, I'm moving to a new house and there's no way I'm leaving my plants behind! I've got some peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, and a few others that I plan to take with me. I know some may not survive the move, but I've got to try! I have a few questions: How far in advance should I dig them up? Should I wash the soil off their roots before potting them for transport? Is trimming the plants a good idea to reduce stress? After I pot them, how long should I wait before planting them in the new ground? Any survival tips would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and just to clarify, I'm moving about an hour and a half away, so I'm wondering about timing as well.

Washing all the soil off the roots isn't a good idea for these plants. When you dig them up, try to take as big a root ball as possible and keep everything damp. You'll want to plant them quickly in their new pots, so water them well during the first few weeks to help them recover. Your strawberries are pretty hardy, but tomatoes can be brittle and need extra care. I'd strongly suggest keeping them well-supported during the move!

That's a solid plan! For your tomatoes, you might consider taking some suckers and rooting them, just in case the main plants don't make it. It's a good backup plan if you're worried!
