Help Identifying a Burned Out Resistor

Asked By CuriousGeorge42 On

I recently had a resistor burn out on my circuit board, and I'm not sure what its value is for replacement. I found a similar PCB that doesn't have any burnt components, and I'd like some help determining the resistor value based on what I can see. I've attached photos of both the burned resistor and the similar PCB I found. Any advice would be appreciated!

To figure out the resistor value, you can either upload a clear close-up photo showing the color bands on the resistor, or you can check out 'resistor color codes' online and identify it yourself. Just keep in mind that if the boards are only similar, the replacement might not work. Also, it's crucial to find out what caused the resistor to burn out in the first place; otherwise, you risk burning the new one out immediately too. Resistors don't usually fail without reason, so double-check the circuit for any underlying issues.

I totally get why you'd want to ask an expert, especially since you mentioned the colors are hard to see. If you believe the similar PCB's part numbers match exactly with your board, you might just be able to swap it out with that one. Just be cautious about the issues that caused the burnout—your two guesses are spot on! If it overheated or there was an unexpected power surge, that’s serious business. Make sure you’ve addressed the problem before replacing any components!
