I'm building a marble-topped outdoor coffee table for my in-laws' coastal home. The dimensions of the marble slabs are 21"x36" x 1-1/4" and the total table dimensions will be 42"x36". Their house is located on a brackish pond in Cape Cod, where the moist sea breeze will be a factor. I'm considering using 4x4 cedar with corner joints, but I'm wondering if I should invest in teak instead. I have access to a full workshop, or I could even ask my metal team to create something in aluminum. What do you think is the best material?

Cedar should work just fine, but let’s be real—you might end up regretting not going with teak. It’s known for being really durable against the elements, especially in coastal areas.
Cedar is an okay choice, but teak is definitely the superior option. And hey, if you're looking for something really fancy, Ipe is top-notch! Just keep in mind the purpose: Cedar means you're making it for practical reasons, Teak means your mother-in-law asked, and Ipe? That means your father-in-law is loaded and you're probably in the will!

Haha, that's a funny way to look at it! I guess it really depends on who’s going to be enjoying the table!
