What Colorful Plants Can Thrive in Poor Soil in the Northeast?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the community and I'm looking for some advice on colorful plants that can thrive in challenging soil conditions in the Northeast. I've been working on a special garden for my daughter, who passed away a few months ago, and I want to make it vibrant and beautiful. Currently, I have mostly clay mixed with large rocks for soil, and I'd love suggestions for flowers that will add a lot of color. Thanks for your help!

Those sound like wonderful plants! I’d definitely recommend adding some more perennial flowers that come back each year. They can really brighten up the area. How many different types of flowers do you already have?

You might want to consider plants like lavender and sunflowers! They tend to do well in less-than-ideal soil and can add some nice color to your garden. Plus, they're relatively low-maintenance. How's the layout of your garden coming along?

Echinacea could be a great option for you! It's pretty resilient and doesn't need the best soil to thrive. What other challenges are you facing with your soil?
