Freestanding Tub vs. More Vanity Space: What’s Best for My Master Bath?

I'm planning a remodel for my 10x10 master bathroom, which has marble tiling and a spacious 6x4 walk-in shower. I'm at a crossroads: should I install a freestanding 60-inch bathtub, which would leave me with a 48-inch vanity, or skip the tub and maximize my vanity space to about 120 inches? My wife prefers having a bathtub, but I'm thinking about practicality and resale value. What do you all suggest?

If you have another bathtub in the house, maybe skip the freestanding one. A big vanity space can make a big difference, especially if you use your bathroom more for practicality. A tub is used less frequently compared to a spacious vanity.

We do have a guest bathroom with a tub and showerhead combo, so maybe the larger vanity could work for us.

If you’re thinking about resale value, a bathtub can definitely add to that! Getting a freestanding tub might be a bit trendy, but they can be a nice selling point. Plus, it might make your wife happy, which is a win-win for you!

Does that apply even if it's a freestanding tub? Wouldn't it be less desirable?

I'd definitely recommend going for the tub! Even if you only have a 4-foot vanity, having a tub is a great feature. Plus, a shower is just a shower; you want more versatility in the bathroom. Remember, a tub can enhance the overall look and feel of the space. If resale is a concern, a tub can add value to your home, too!

What if we already have a kids' bathroom with a tub/shower combo? Would that change your recommendation?

But what about the maintenance? Freestanding tubs can be a hassle to clean! That really worries me.
