Stuck Flapper Disk on Angle Grinder – How Do I Get It Off?

Asked By RustyNinja42 On

I recently attached a flapper disk to my angle grinder but made the mistake of not using the backing flange. I've tightened the front flange all the way, and now I'm stuck because I can't remove it. I've searched online but haven't found any helpful solutions. What options do I have for getting this disk off?

It sounds like you're in a bit of a bind! Have you tried holding the wheel with a gloved hand while pressing and holding the spindle lock? You should twist the wheel in the direction it normally comes off. If that doesn't work, you may need to apply some penetrating oil to loosen it up before trying again.

I feel your pain! Unfortunately, if the spindle is really seized and spinning with the front flange, that could complicate things. You might want to consider using a strap wrench to gain some grip and try twisting it off. If it's super stuck, you might need to get a bit more aggressive with some heat, but be careful with that!
