Hey everyone! I'm looking to install a sump pump in my home, but I don't currently have a radon system or have tested for radon levels yet. I understand that a typical radon mitigation system involves a hole drilled into the ground, with a fan and vent stack to expel air outside. My question is: if I get a lid for my sump pump, can I just attach a radon fan and pipe to it instead of drilling a separate hole for a radon system? Thanks for your insights!

If you're doing major renovations or building new, consider adding a radon rough-in. It'll give you a solid start for a radon system. If you're in an existing home, definitely test first. Long-term testing is best for accuracy. Electronic monitors have become more affordable, so you might want to explore those too.
You can definitely get a specialized sump cover for radon mitigation that fits right on your sump pump. For example, check out the Everbilt Radon Mitigation Basin Cover at Home Depot. Just keep in mind that it's a good idea to test for radon levels before going all in—there are affordable radon detectors available online that can give you a solid reading without needing a pro.
It's great that you're thinking about radon, especially with your county's high levels. However, I'm not sure combining it with your sump pump is the best route. While it won’t cause physical harm, it may not efficiently remove radon like a dedicated system would. It might just lead to higher energy costs without solving the radon issue appropriately. Best to do some testing first before making changes.
That makes sense! I didn't realize energy costs could spike. I'll definitely test first.

Awesome, thanks for the link! I'll look into those detectors. It's good to know there's a cover option.
