How Can I Improve Pollination for My Cucumbers?

Asked By GardenGnome42 On

I'm struggling to get my cucumbers to pollinate properly. I've been hand-pollinating, but none of them seem to swell or develop into cucumbers. I've tried planting flowers to attract bees, but I'm looking for more tips. I know about parthenocarpic varieties, but I haven't found any nearby and I'm worried it's too late to start a new batch. Any reliable methods or suggestions?

Just to check: are you sure you have both male and female flowers blooming on your cucumber plants? Hand pollinating works best if you transfer pollen from male flowers to the female ones. Also, consider if your plants are stressed from pests, heat, or not enough water — stress can cause them to drop fruit before it develops. How do the plants look overall?

I had a tough time with fruit forming, but then I added African Blue Basil next to my cucumbers for attracting pollinators, and it worked wonders! My cucumbers started developing immediately after!

I haven’t faced any issues with pollination in my garden, but we do have a lot of bees around. Keeping pollinator-friendly plants nearby really helps!
