What’s the Secret Behind TruGreen’s Lawn Care?

Hey everyone! I'm really getting fed up with paying TruGreen and other lawn care companies. It seems like they only take a few minutes to spray some mystery liquid on my yard and then leave. Does anyone out there know what kinds of chemicals or products these companies typically use on lawns? I'm considering doing it myself to save some cash. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! ?

Yeah, it really depends on a lot of factors like what season it is and what kind of grass you have. Usually, services like TruGreen apply a mix of fertilizer and pre-emergent/post-emergent treatments. Sometimes they skimp on the quality, so don't assume you're getting top-notch care. I'd suggest checking if your state's AG Extension office has a lawn care plan specific to your area. They might even have basic guidance available online!

That's a great point! Local extension offices really know their stuff when it comes to the climate in your area.

Taking care of your lawn yourself can be a real challenge! There's a ton of info out there, and you'll need to invest in various products and equipment. Surprisingly, professional services often charge prices that are pretty close to what you'd spend doing it yourself. If you're really interested in going the DIY route, steer clear of the popular YouTube lawn care channels; they often give out some pretty poor advice. Instead, search for local extension services specific to your state for reliable guidance. Those .edu sites are gold!

I've been in the landscape biz for about 20 years, and honestly, I still hire out for lawn fertilizing. It's not as simple as just following the instructions on a bag of fertilizer – you need to understand the issues affecting your lawn and know your local climate well. While I don’t endorse TruGreen specifically, I recommend finding a smaller, local business with good reviews. They can provide tailored treatments and advice, which generic guidelines just won’t offer.
