Is it normal for a restoration company to ask me to sign a ‘Certificate of Satisfaction’ before the work is done?

I recently experienced water damage and my restoration company has done some initial work like removing the damaged hardwood floors, setting up dehumidifiers, and checking for further water damage. However, they haven't completed any repairs, and we're still waiting for insurance approval on the claim. Today, they handed me a 'Certificate of Satisfaction' to sign, claiming all the work is done and that everything is in pre-loss condition, even though no new flooring has been installed yet. They mentioned that I didn't have to sign it right away, but it felt really strange to receive this certificate at this stage. Is this a common practice, or should I be concerned?

Totally agree with the others! Signing could leave you vulnerable if something goes wrong later. It's best to push back on anything like that until all the work is finished and properly approved.

It sounds really strange for them to give you that certificate before completing the work. Signing something like that could limit your ability to hold them accountable later if issues arise. You don't want to authorize anything until your insurance has given the green light. If they pressure you, just stick to your guns and say no. They shouldn’t rush you into this!

Yeah, I’d be super cautious about signing anything before the work is done and approved by your insurance. Make sure you have everything documented too!

I wouldn't sign it either! It seems like they're just trying to get their money fast. If possible, look into switching companies if you're not feeling comfortable. Your insurance is really what you should be working with, not just taking their word for it right now.
