Looking for Birthday Plant Ideas for My Wife

Hey everyone! My wife and I bought our first house a couple of years back, and while we have some outdoor space, we haven't really done much with it yet. Her birthday is on the horizon, and I was thinking of getting her some plants since she's shown interest in them during our supermarket trips. Last year, I got her a swing chair which she enjoys a lot when it's nice out.

I'm looking for plants that can thrive in pots since we mostly have decking. Our space is approximately south-facing and gets plenty of sun. I'd like to avoid anything that grows too tall (max around 6 feet). It's also important that they are hardy and not too high-maintenance. If they could have purple blooms and a nice fragrance, that would be fantastic!

Additionally, if anyone knows of reliable online shops where I can order good quality plants, I'd really appreciate the recommendations. Thanks a ton for any help!

Lavender and rosemary are great options for pots, and they’re both relatively low-maintenance. You might also want to look at hebes and salvias; they have beautiful purple flowers. Rhododendrons are worth considering too, although I’m not sure how available they are right now.

I love salvia as well! They do great in pots and offer some lovely smaller varieties. Just keep in mind that they might not make a huge display right away. There’s a new type called 'Blackberry Ripple' that smells amazing and has a rich dark purple color. You could also think about pairing a few smaller plants with some decorative planters for a unique touch!

I’d suggest considering lavender! It meets all your criteria and is super easy to care for. Plus, it adds a lovely scent to your outdoor space. Definitely a win!
