I've got a house that's over 100 years old, and while I'm working on my basement renovation, I found asbestos tiles stuck to the concrete. The basement is finished, but there's been some flooding in the past, which I'm addressing by fixing the broken gutter spouts. As I'm tearing out the damaged framing and flooring, I'm wondering if I can just cover the asbestos tile with a subfloor. Is it okay to shim in places to make it level?

Before doing anything, it's important to test the tile for asbestos. If it's confirmed, you can cover it, but just remember that the removal process isn't that complicated if you choose to go that route later on. Also, keep in mind the age of your house; many materials could contain asbestos, so it’s good to verify.
Totally agree! A lot of people think everything in an older home is asbestos until proven otherwise, so testing is key.
Yes, you can cover over the asbestos tile, and it should be fine. Just be sure to do it properly to avoid any issues with leveling.

I had mine tested, and it came back positive. Definitely best to check first before making any big decisions.
