How Can I Make Chair Mats Without Power Tools in My Apartment?

Hey everyone! I've been checking out a bunch of posts here and I'm really impressed by all the creativity! I need some help with a project related to chair mats for my husband and me. We have pretty heavy chairs and after using polycarbonate mats that cracked way too soon, we tried bamboo mats, which turned out to be a disaster (hello splinters!). I found a video online showing how to make some new mats and I'd love to tackle this DIY project myself. However, we live in a small apartment and don't have power tools besides a cheap drill. Does anyone have tips on how to do this affordably? Renting tools or DIY help is super welcome!

If you're looking for tools, consider renting them from a local Home Depot or Lowe's. They have a range of tools you can borrow without needing to invest in your own just yet!

Great suggestion! I’d also encourage checking out community tool libraries if you have one nearby; they often have better quality tools and you might even get them for free or at a lower cost than the big stores.

For your project, you can get the initial cuts of plywood done at Home Depot or Lowe's. After that, you can lay down the LVP flooring on the plywood without needing power tools, just use a utility knife to trim. If you want to add trim, a miter box and hand saw will work just fine! I hear you on the splinters! Have you thought about your local library? Many libraries now lend out tools! It could be a hidden gem for your project.
