I'm planning to start a vegetable patch in the yard where my guard dog stays. While I trust him to not mess with the plants, I want to be cautious. Are there specific vegetables that could be harmful or toxic to dogs if he's around them unattended? Also, I'd like to know if there are any veggies that dogs might be tempted to eat, even if they're not poisonous, since it wouldn't be ideal to grow something he might dig up. By the way, he usually only eats grass and figs if he can reach them.

Also consider that dogs are curious critters! They might not eat toxic plants, but they can still be a nuisance. Just monitor them around the garden and ensure you use non-toxic practices. Always better to be safe than sorry!
Just a heads up, fertilizers like fish or those that contain blood and bone meal can smell irresistible to dogs. They might dig around trying to get to them, so be careful about what you use around your garden. I had a similar issue with my own dog, and I found that a few small amounts of organic fertilizer placed strategically helped him get used to the smell without going after it.
Definitely steer clear of grapes and hops as both are known to be highly toxic to dogs. It's best to avoid any plants that might pose a risk to their health.
