How to Get Rid of Those Annoying Beetle Swarms in My Yard?

Every summer, I deal with swarms of metallic-green beetles in my yard. They usually invade during the late morning and afternoon but seem to disappear by around 3 or 4 PM. This started just this week, and based on previous years, I expect it to last about 4 to 6 weeks. I live in southwest Ohio. What can I do to get rid of these pesky beetles?

I totally relate! When I get them, I just go outside with a badminton racket at dusk and take out as many as I can during their peak week. I’m not a bug fan, but after a massive one got stuck in my beard once, I've made it my mission to destroy them all! lol

Help is on the way! You might want to think about applying GRUB CONTROL to your lawn, which can help prevent them. You can find some DIY options at Home Depot or WalMart. It’s a little late for this year, but it'll be worth it to add to your routine. The grubs are actually the larvae of the beetles and they come up earlier in the year. This means controlling them might reduce the number of beetles you see later on!

Could that be causing some minor brown spots in the grass?

Looks like you've got Japanese beetles! They're really into fruity plants, especially anything in the rose family, like roses and some fruit trees. If you've got a Bradford Pear or a purple-leaved plum tree, that might be why they're around. You could get beetle traps, but honestly, the best way to reduce their numbers is to convince your neighbor to set up a trap instead!

I’ll buy traps and put them in my neighbor’s yard! ?

They go nuts for wild grape. I've got most of the plants you mentioned, and the grape vine is where they gather the most.
