I've been dealing with cucumber beetles in my garden and it's really frustrating. I started off catching them with Vaseline on a popsicle stick, which worked well initially. I also sprayed the garden with neem oil, but that didn't help much. Now, I'm going out at least three times a day to pluck them off, but despite my efforts, they keep coming back in full force. My cucumber plants are healthy, and I'm really hoping to make pickles this year. Am I wasting my time with the manual removal?

Here’s a tip: try going out at night! That’s when I caught most of the mating pairs. They can be really pesky, so it might just give you the edge you need. Good luck with the beetle battle!
Have you thought about using yellow sticky traps? They work great because they have a strong pheromone that attracts the beetles. Just remember to set them up before or around planting time, and replace them when your plants start to flower. They can really help reduce the population!
Using Spinosad and insecticidal soap consistently can really help interrupt the life cycle of cucumber beetles! You'll want to keep applying it regularly, especially when the young ones are around, as they're more vulnerable. Also, consider planting cucumber varieties resistant to bacterial wilt, like H19 Little Leaf or Supremo. If you're really desperate, you can try growing parthenocarpic types that don’t need pollination under protective covers to keep the beetles out. Good luck!
