Hey everyone! I'm setting up a workspace for when I can no longer use traditional office chairs. I'm planning to use a recliner and a wall-mounted monitor arm to support a small desk where I can work comfortably. My main concern is choosing the right type of wood for the desk. The monitor arm can safely hold about 20 kg, but I'd rather be cautious about weight. I need the wood to be stiff enough to avoid flexing, and I want to be able to drill four holes into it for mounting. Ideally, I'd like something lightweight and budget-friendly. Any suggestions? I really appreciate any advice you can offer!

This project is definitely doable! I recommend starting with square tube steel for the frame, especially if you’re mounting it to the wall. You’ll want to tie it into at least two wall studs for extra support. Wooden desks can work, but you might need to create a bulkier frame to ensure stability. Would love to discuss how you could reinforce your design!
You might be underestimating the forces your monitor arm will have to handle. It would really help to see a simple diagram of your setup to get a better idea of what you’re envisioning. That way, we can offer more targeted advice!
Here's a rough sketch of my idea! I'm worried about the stability too - I've posted more about my thoughts on the design subreddit. Thanks for replying!

I get the idea; the desk will be wooden, but how do you suggest I support it without it falling apart? It's becoming a bit complicated thinking about the structure!
