What Should I Do About Cracks in My Concrete Path?

Asked By SillySausage42 On

I recently had a contractor pour a bull-nosed concrete path, but I've noticed a crack forming at one of the corners. I'm in Toronto, Canada, and I'm worried the crack might worsen with weather changes. The contractor is coming to check it out tomorrow, and I want to know if this is a normal issue or if I should be concerned. Should the contractor be responsible for fixing it, or is this something I shouldn't worry about? Any insights would be appreciated! Check out the photos I posted in the comments.

I see where you're coming from. Cracks can be concerning, especially with changing weather. Definitely make sure the contractor addresses it! Sealing the crack can help keep out water and avoid further damage during winter. It’s better to bring it up and get their take on it rather than worry about it later.

It’s likely that there's some rebar in the mix, and since the crack is deeper in, it shouldn’t just break off. Honestly, I wouldn’t stress too much—just be proactive! Try jumping on the corners to gauge if there’s any risk of a serious failure while your warranty is still valid. I’d do that before the contractor arrives, just in case!

Got it, I'll definitely try that out. Thanks for the tip!

Just a heads up, in my experience, many concrete paths around where I live are installed without rebar. So, at the very least, make sure the contractor seals that crack to prevent any moisture from freezing and worsening it.
