I'm looking to dive into woodcarving and was wondering what basic tools or equipment I should get to start. I'm not sure if there are specific tools needed based on different styles of carving, so any guidance would be appreciated!

Before you buy anything, think about what you want to carve. Different styles like caricature or chip carving require different tools. For figures in the round using softwood, I’d recommend a solid basic knife like the one from Flexcut (check out their KN12). It’s great for beginners and durable, plus you’ll want a good sharpening kit to keep it sharp. And remember, practice makes perfect, so you’ll get the hang of it in no time!

To kick things off, a sharp carving knife and a decent piece of wood are essential! I’d suggest checking out the Flexcut FP02 carving knife—it’s great for beginners and holds up well. Plus, you might want to grab a strop to keep your blade sharp. Trust me, keeping your tools in shape makes all the difference.

I totally agree! Keeping that edge sharp is key, and the Flexcut knives are really user-friendly. Love that they’re robust enough for all sorts of projects!
