Tips for Installing a Shower Door Without Hitting Screws

I recently tiled a 4x4 shower and I'm getting ready to install the shower door. I've got the right diamond drill bit for porcelain tile and have practiced on some scraps. My concern is about possibly hitting a screw from the cement board when I drill. I can use a magnet to locate the screws, but I can't really avoid them since the shower door needs a specific placement. Will the diamond bit drill through a cement board screw if I hit one? Do I need a different drill bit, or am I just out of luck?

You're probably in decent shape! The chance of hitting a screw is small. If you do hit one, just silicone the hole you made and drill a new hole a couple of inches away. Just make sure that new hole lines up with your door frame! But keep in mind, since it's a frameless door, you need to be precise with the height of your support bar.

Yeah, it’s a good strategy to try and avoid the screws, but if you do hit one, I suggest just drilling a new hole. Using the silicone to seal the old one is a smart move. Just ensure everything aligns well since spacings are crucial for frameless designs.
