Best Ways to Clean Old Baseboards That Trap Dirt?

I'm dealing with some old baseboards that seem to gather dirt like there's no tomorrow, as you can see in the photos I linked. After just 2-3 weeks, they're pretty grimy! I'm considering removing them entirely and using a brad nailer to reattach them, but that sounds like a lot of work. What are some easier or more efficient methods others are using for cleaning baseboards? They seem to be uneven and chipped, too. Is just painting over them a realistic option, kind of like how some places do quick fixes? I think removing and repainting the quarter round at the bottom might be manageable, though. Any advice?

Routine cleaning is key! Plus, if you add a nice layer of caulk in the gaps and repaint with semi-gloss, they'll look better and be easier to maintain. Just remember, keeping them clean often will prevent that awful build-up.

A solid way to tackle this is to regularly clean your baseboards—seriously, it makes a big difference! After cleaning, fill in any gaps with caulk and go for a semi-gloss paint finish. It will look great and be easier to wipe down later. I also find that using a damp mop works wonders compared to scrubbing on your hands and knees—definitely saves some back pain!
