What Are the Parts Under My Roof Eaves and How Do I Replace Them?

I'm having some work done on my roof, specifically a new underlayment and some plywood installation. I'm curious about the parts located under the eaves that have screens—what are those called? Also, I noticed a wood strip below that. I suspect roofers don't usually replace this, but I could be wrong. I'm trying to figure out what steps I need to take moving forward.

You might want to look into mini or small round soffit vents for those openings. They come in different styles and colors, and some are secured by screws, while others just pop in. Sizes can vary, typically around 2" to 3" holes.

I actually need to replace the whole section, so that’s really helpful!

The pieces you’re talking about under the eaves are typically known as soffits. As for the section between the roof joists, it’s often referred to as bird blocking. You’ll want to check on those if you're doing repairs!
