How Often Do You Water Your Plants in the Heat?

I'm wondering how often everyone is watering their plants during this heatwave? Typically, I've been giving my plants a drink once a week using a watering can for better control. For my roses, that's about 7 liters a week, but some are looking a bit heat stressed. I'm considering increasing the frequency to twice a week when it's this hot, but I'm also wary of overwatering and causing waterlogging. How are you managing your watering during this heat?

I’m giving my pots and newly planted beds a good soak every other day, and the more established plants seem to do fine without extra help. I do think about whether any plants are struggling and adjust as needed, but I’ve had to water more than usual this year because I’ve added a few new trees and they need consistent moisture.

Great approach! I’m also trying to adapt by checking each plant regularly. If it’s wilting, I water it more often.

Honestly, I wouldn’t stress about waterlogging right now. I tend to give my plants a deep drink every day, especially the needy ones. It’s really about how motivated you are to get out there. Most of my plants can last a couple of days without water, but some definitely need more frequent care, especially in this heat.

Same here! I've got some that are practically begging for water daily, especially my pots. I’m running low on rainwater, so I'm hoping for a downpour soon!

In London, it's been practically rain-free since early April. My front beds were mulched back in March, and they only need watering once a week. The back beds aren't mulched, and the soil turns into desert-like conditions, so I try to water those every two days with about 6 liters per plant. What a difference mulch makes!

Wow, I had no idea mulching could make such a difference! Maybe I need to step up my mulching game.
