What Wood Types Work Best for a Shower Tiling Project?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice as we're planning to redo our 1950s bathroom. My wife found a shower design with teak paneling that she loves, but I know using wood in a wet space can be tricky. Are there any wood types that can handle moisture and heat better than others? Also, is there a specific finish that can help protect the wood? I live in Wisconsin, so ideally, I'd love to use something local. Thanks!

Teak and Ipe are definitely the top choices for this kind of project. Personally, I find Ipe works even better since it's super dense and can handle moisture well. Just a heads-up though—keeping wood in a wet area is really demanding. Many clients I've worked with often end up switching to wood grain tiles that mimic the look of teak because it’s so much easier to manage. It might save you a lot of hassle in the long run!

Got it! Any recommendations on how to finish those woods to make them last?
