What Can I Plant Mid-Season in Zone 7?

Asked By GardenGnome42 On

I've got some struggling plants in my raised beds and I'm looking to replace them with something that will thrive. I'm in zone 7 and right now, the temperatures are hovering between 85-95°F. I'm particularly interested in vegetables, as my herbs and flowers are doing great. Any suggestions for what I can plant now to get the most out of the rest of the growing season? Thanks in advance!

I recommend trying beets and zucchini! Beets come up pretty quick, and zucchini can handle this kind of heat well. Carrots will take a bit longer but can also be worth it for a later crop.

Zucchini is always a good idea; it's one of those plants that just keeps giving!

Beets are awesome and they’re so easy to grow. Can’t go wrong with that!

If you're looking for quick-growing options, bush beans and squash are fantastic choices. They tend to sprout quickly and can handle the heat well. Trombocino squash is a great summer variety you can plant now as it will do fine in the warmer temps. Don't forget about radishes too — they're both fast and tasty!

I love Trombocino squash! It’s super versatile. And those radishes really are perfect for quick results!

Bush beans have been my go-to! They're so easy to grow and you get a nice harvest.

You can also consider starting some spinach or kale. Just keep in mind that they might take a bit longer to get going but they’ll thrive once the weather cools down. Carrots still have a chance for a late crop too!
