Hey everyone! I'm trying to decide if MDF is a good option for making garage cabinet boxes, specifically without face frames. What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

I've worked with MDF before, but it’s crucial to keep it off the concrete floor. MDF and moisture don't mix well at all! I made some bins out of it, and they pretty much fell apart after some rain splashed in from the downspout nearby. A base frame made from 2x4s could definitely help.
You could also look for composite leveling feet to raise the cabinets a bit off the floor!
Have you considered using cheaper plywood instead? It might be a more durable option and can be just as smooth to paint if you choose the right type.
I could definitely go that route! I just want to make sure whatever I use has a nice, smooth grain.
Plywood could work great! Just make sure you sand it down well.

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking about using pocket holes for the joints on the 2x4 frame. I'm still planning everything out, and while Baltic birch is my top choice, I'm not sure I can swing it budget-wise!
